Anne has been portrayed as seductress, schemer, reformer, victim and villain. Beneath those competing images was a highly educated, politically aware woman who rose to the English throne, helped alter the religious and political direction of a nation, and became the mother of the future Queen Elizabeth I.
Written by internationally produced playwright Mike Broemmel, The Hours of Anne strips away centuries of mythology to encounter Anne Boleyn as a living, breathing woman confronting an unthinkable fate. Alone with her memories, she revisits the ambition that carried her to the throne, the love that became her undoing, the enemies who gathered around her and the daughter whose destiny Anne would never live to witness.
The play does not simply ask whether Anne was innocent of the charges brought against her. It asks a deeper question: Who has the power to determine how a woman will be remembered?
