Mike Broemmel has been the resident playwright at Act One Productions since 2016. His critically acclaimed, award-winning plays are the foundational productions of our company. His work has allowed Act One Productions to truly disrupt traditional theatre concepts — which has taken our plays around the world while other theatre companies are shutting their doors.
Mike’s career began in the White House, first in the Office of Media Relations and later in the office of the First Lady in the 1980s. From there, he spent the greater part of 10 years deep in the hustle and bustle of the political arena, including working for a number of notable elected officials and running for office himself.
Mike’s involvement in the arts has extended over many years. Mike was the board chair of a metropolitan arts council for six years and the president of a statewide umbrella organization for community arts agencies.
In addition to garnering acclaim as a playwright, Mike is a critically acclaimed novelist and writer of short fiction. He has been described as the “21st century’s answer to John Steinbeck at his most nitty-gritty.”
Mike also writes in the commercial arena, providing his services to the largest personal injury law firm in the country for over eight years. He writes for the San Francisco Chronicle and the Houston Chronicle on legal and business issues.
Mike’s newest novel, The Baptism, is slated for release in 2024.
